MG Kids Read What is a series of video interviews with kids between the ages of 9-13 about reading and books. As a teacher and creator of children’s literature it seemed important that I go to the source and discover, what makes a middle grade age child want to read? Obviously, there are so many compelling activities that compete with the quiet solitary reading activity.

Let’s find out why, what, when, who and how middle grade kids read!

The kids answer questions such as:

• If reading were an animal what kind of animal would it be?
• When do you read? 
• What do you like the most about reading? 
• What do you dislike about reading?
• What’s your favorite book and why did you like that book?
• Have you ever re-read a book? 
• What does the word “reading” mean to you? Free association, when I say “reading” what do you think and feel?
